Taylor Jordan vs Henderson Alvarez
Mostly cloudy. Winds blowing in from center field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game time temperature around 85.
Get out the brooms, because the Miami Marlins are going for the sweep.
The Fish have a chance to sweep the Washington Nationals in a three-game series to finish off the first half, and they will do it with Henderson Alvarez on the mound.
Pitching Matchup
Alvarez has not exactly had the strongest debut thus far for Miami, but there are at least some positive signs. He is at least picking up strikeouts, and while a 14.6 percent rate would be below average for most folks, it is great compared to last season's 9.8 percent rate. He has yet to allow a home run either, which is his forte, but he is doing it without ground balls. Those should come back at some point as well.
There are plenty of negatives with Alvarez as well, so things like his velocity should be monitored in this start.
Lineup
This is the Marlins' rest lineup, with regular starters in three different positions getting a break for the day. Unfortunately, those were some of the team's better hitters in Justin Ruggiano, Logan Morrison, and Ed Lucas (?), so that leaves the Fish with Giancarlo Stanton and a group of poor or inexperienced hitters. Runs should be hard to come by.
Bold Prediction: Nationals def. Marlins 5-2
