Bullis School boys basketball coach Bruce Kelley had the play diagnosed before it even started. He had been burned by it enough times to know. Georgetown Prep's Michael Wolfe would start on the wing, fade out as if to catch an entry pass up top, then feint towards the baseline where a teammate stood waiting to set a back screen, freeing the 6-foot-9 forward for an alley-oop that would typically result in an easy dunk.
But then, as Kelley had prepared for that very play, Wolfe, instead of ascending to snatch a lob pass, circled back around, running his confused defender through another screen, popping back out to the wing for an open 3-pointer.
"There's just not many like him," Kelley said. "That's what's intriguing about him. He moves so fluidly. He's got the post-up moves and he's got the perimeter game. What's next is entirely up to Michael."
