Nirvana Nominated For Induction Into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Along with KISS, Linda Ronstadt, YES, The Replacements and more

The nominations for induction into the 2014 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced and Nirvana is at the top of the new crop of nominees. Nirvana is joined by KISS, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, The Replacements, Yes, Hall & Oates, the Zombies and Link Wray. Some of last year’s nominees who didn’t get in — including Chic, Deep Purple and N.W.A. — also managed to get nominated for induction again this year. A band or musician is only eligible for induction into the Rock Hall 25 years after the release of their first single … and Nirvana released their first single Love Buzz back in 1988. Click below to learn more about this year’s batch of Rock Hall nominees and find out who else is up for induction next year.

Nirvana, the Replacements, Kiss, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel and Yes are among the 16 nominees for the 29th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, to be held in April in New York, the hall announced. This is the first year of eligibility for Nirvana, whose acceptance into the Rock Hall pantheon is widely seen in the music industry as a fait accompli. Yes, the Replacements and Ms. Ronstadt are also being nominated for the first time, as are Hall & Oates, the Zombies and Link Wray, the rockabilly guitarist best known for his 1958 instrumental hit “Rumble.” Chic, Deep Purple, N.W.A., the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the Meters, who were all nominated last year, have gotten the nod once again, and the other repeat nominees are LL Cool J and Cat Stevens. Mr. Gabriel is already a member of the Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis, but he is being nominated as a solo artist for the first time. Nominations are chosen by a group of 600 people, including previous inductees, historians, critics and members of the music industry. Acts become eligible 25 years after the release of their first record. (Nirvana’s first was a single, “Love Buzz,” in 1988.)

I’m usually wary of getting all excited when a band/musician gets nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because I hate being disappointed but I’m fairly certain that Nirvana will get in next year. The band is much beloved by musicians and the public alike and there is no denying that the band was integral to the music scene of the 90s. I’m actually pretty surprised that it took this long for KISS to be nominated for induction but I can’t see how they could be passed over now that they have finally been nominated. It won’t belong until the new Rock Hall class is announced so we have some waiting to do before we find out if Nirvana got in or not but my gut tells me they’re a shoe in. Congratulations goes out to all of the nominees! I can’t wait to find out which of these bands/musicians will be inducted into the hallowed walls of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
