Community reacts after father shot to death

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Police continue to investigate what lead to a deadly shooting in Northeast Knoxville.

It happened just before 11 p.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of Harrison Street near Washington Avenue.

Police say 31-year-old Myron Hooper shot and killed William Jones right outside his home

Geraldine Adkins a neighbor says, "I was shocked totally shocked."

Across from Adkins home is now a crime scene.

Adkins says, "searching hunting they've got their dogs, searching for whatever...guns."

That's what she's seen all day-- investigators trying to piece together what lead to a shooting that killed William Jones.

Adkins says he was a husband and father of three kids.

"The oldest probably about 9 and the baby is about 18 months.
He was very quiet. He spoke to you if he was outside and asked how you were doing. He was just a very nice guy.
I was shocked totally shocked."

Shocked not only at what happened.. but how it all happened.

Adkins says "She was at the front porch at the same time he was getting shot. She and the baby was on the front porch."

She says his wife and baby were there when the shots were fired.
A situation she's read in the paper or watched on the news-- but hasn't happened this close to home.

Adkins says, "It's bad to think it's right in front of your door."

Hooper has been charged with first degree murder.
He's in jail on a 750 thousand dollar bond.
